Elvira Zambrana Horvei
Elvira Horvei is an interdisciplinary artist who works with sculpture and photography. She attended the Artist Residency Program at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2023 after graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design in 2023.

“Elvira Horvei’s encased tableaus trot the line between sculpture and photography, demarcating a new zone where images perform through almost-physical substitutes. Seven boxes act as personalized shelters for their host, although any attempts to blend into its surroundings are thwarted by an electric glow. The work is nightlight faint, bright in the same way stars seem even after eyes adjust to the dark. Horvei’s works coax you in to reveal highly organized compositions that read like miniatures. Private constellations on a microscopic scale. Although obviously made with their own idiosyncratic symbolism, it’s clear everything is just out of reach, flickering within vessels that are simultaneously toy box and electrical appliance. And as with both, best not to touch. Horvei’s work offers a chance to engage with what is usually off-limits.”
